Jonas Lundblad is a musicologist, choral conductor, and organist. He is Associate Professor of Historical Music Aesthetics at Åbo Academy University, Affiliate Research Fellow in the Department of Musicology at Uppsala University, and Main Editor of the Svensk Tidskrift för Musikforskning / Swedish Journal of Music Research. As a musician, he serves in Västerås Cathedral and is Artistic Director of the Mariakören chamber choir. Lundblad’s research typically seeks out intersections between historical musicology, aesthetics, and performance practices. Early German Romantic aesthetics, especially the thought of Friedrich Schleiermacher, is a focal area from a previous background in theological research. Lundblad’s musicological dissertation focused on Olivier Messiaen and the composer’s complete organ works form a central part of his repertoire. In 2025, he also initiated an international scholarly network on Messiaen as an organist. His two main areas of study are Swedish music history, especially after 1800, and twentieth-century French music.
