The Orpheus Instituut can change these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice.

2 Terms of use

This website is intended to provide the content of SONUS publications, developed by the Orpheus Instituut. SONUS publications are digital and intended to be experienced online.

Although the Orpheus Instituut makes every effort to provide information that it thinks is up-to-date and correct, the Orpheus Instituut does not guarantee the adequacy, correctness, completeness, or topicality of that information, nor that this website is comprehensive or suitable to use for a goal. Nor does the Orpheus Instituut guarantee continuous access to the website, nor does it guarantee the absence of malfunctions or the proper functioning of the website. If you find inaccuracies in the information available on this website, you can contact the series editor at the Orpheus Instituut at w.f.brooks@orpheusinstituut.be.

3 Liability

The Orpheus Instituut cannot be held liable for any damage that arises or arises from the (in)direct use of the website or the information made available on the website.

As a contributor or visitor to the website, you must take all reasonable precautions to ensure that your equipment or data are not affected by viruses, bugs, etc. The Orpheus Instituut provides no guarantee regarding the compatibility between your software and the files and parts that are part of or appear on the website. Nor can the Orpheus Instituut be held liable in any way for electronic communication that takes place via the website, such as the sending of emails or the delay, interception, or manipulation by third parties of this communication.

4 Intellectual property

The website is an original creation of which both the content and the structure are protected by copyright or other intellectual property rights. Logos, drawings, images, etc. also used on the website are protected by copyright.

SONUS publications conform to Diamond Open Access (DOA) with the following Creative Commons licence: Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), unless stated otherwise. The licence allows publications to be downloaded and shared with others, provided that SONUS and the author(s) of the publication are mentioned, that the publication is not altered, and that the work is not used commercially. Any other use, including but not limited to reproduction, distribution, and/or reuse in any form whatsoever, whether in full or in part, temporary or permanent, of the website or information of the Orpheus Instituut, is strictly prohibited without its written and prior consent.

AUTHOR RIGHTS

Authors retain full copyright and publishing rights of their contributions published with SONUS, while granting the Orpheus Instituut the right to distribute and continue showing their publications in perpetuity under the publication’s chosen licence. Authors may deposit any version, whether pre- or post-publication, to any repository or website. Authors also consent to copies being stored by third-party digital preservation services including, but not limited to, the Internet Archive.

SONUS does not impose an embargo period on the redistribution of material.

PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is understood by the editors as failing to acknowledge the work or contributions of other people. This can include reusing material and paraphrasing material without appropriate citation.

SONUS does not run any official plagiarism checks, but its editors are asked to consider whether the author of a submission has plagiarised another publication or published the research before.

Following the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), authors will also be expected to retain documentation for any citations to unpublished work, such as personal communications.

THIRD-PARTY COPYRIGHT

In many cases, copyright or other proprietary rights for material published on SONUS may be held by individuals or entities other than, or in addition to, the authors or the Orpheus Instituut. Where materials (text or image-based or audio or video recordings) published on the website are still protected by copyright, the author must cite the relevant copyright information when reproducing it and comply with all other terms or restrictions that may be applicable to that material.

5 Preservation

DIGITAL PRESERVATION

SONUS publications are indexed in WARC (Web ARChive) file format by the Internet Archive. This format captures the full HTML rendering of the website, including enriched digital content.

IDENTIFICATION

Each publication on SONUS is assigned a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) that can be cited in an academic publication. The DOI for the publication can be found at the bottom of each page in the colophon as well as in the publication colophon, which is the last page of the publication. DOIs provide current information about where an object can be found on the internet. While the location of the object may change over time, its DOI will not change. We recommend that when DOIs are available, you include them for both print and electronic sources. All our DOIs are registered at CrossRef.

SONUS also encourages contributors to register for an Open Researcher and Contributor iD (ORCID iD). The ORCID iD provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities, ensuring that your work is recognised.

6 Email traffic

The law of 13 June 2005 on the confidential nature of electronic communication is applicable to every email from the Orpheus Instituut; see, in particular, Article 124.

All information sent via email is exclusively intended for the addressee(s). Publication, multiplication, and/or distribution of this information to third parties is not permitted. The Orpheus Instituut is not liable for the incorrect or incomplete transmission, nor for the lateness, nor for the destruction of data as a result of this transmission. If you receive an email that is not intended for you, we ask you to notify us immediately and to destroy the message.

7 Amendments

The Orpheus Instituut can change this disclaimer and will communicate the changes on the website sonus.orpheusinstituut.be with reference to the updated version. The date is always displayed at the top of this page. The changes take effect automatically after publication.
